Care Group Approach to Improving Health, Nutrition, Sanitation and Hygiene practicies
As one way of EHAP's goal to improve health and nutrition in rural communities, the Ekwendeni Hospital Aids Programme (EHAP) conducts regular practical cooking demonstration sessions that aim at promoting the adoption of the six nutritious food groups. These demonstrations focus on showing community members how to prepare diverse recipes using locally available and underutilized foods.
The goal is to help households make the most of their resources while ensuring balanced and healthy diets.
The cooking demonstrations are mainly facilitated by Care Group volunteers but with support from project officers, these sessions go beyond cooking. Additionally, care Groups, a cornerstone of EHAP's community health strategy, play a vital role in promoting health, sanitation, and hygiene within the community.
Their roles extend to encouraging proper nutrition, spreading awareness on sanitation practices, and preventing diseases. By adopting a holistic approach, EHAP ensures that households not only have access to nutritious food but also embrace better hygiene and health practices, creating healthier and more resilient rural communities in Ekwendeni.
